There are three types of voltages available in battery banks – 12v, 24v and 48v.
Batteries are best combined in series, not parallel (especially lead acid). If you want a bigger battery capacity you tend to end up with more cells in series, which gives a higher voltage.
So in general, bigger systems lend themselves to higher voltages. 12v works well in car/caravan scale, 24v to cabin scale and 48v to house scale.
24v has one advantage over 48v: DC appliances are readily available similar to 12v, eg caravan water pumps, camping fridges.
