Case Study: Overcoming Constant Power Outages with Custom Solar Power Solutions
Introduction:
In the heart of Alice Springs lies the Ti Tree Food Barn Roadhouse, a bustling store and petrol station. However, behind the scenes, they grappled with a persistent issue: constant power outages. These outages not only disrupted their operations but also led to significant financial losses.
The Challenge:
For the Ti Tree Barn Roadhouse, frequent grid outages were more than just a minor inconvenience. Occurring as frequently as three times a week, these outages resulted in massive income losses. Perishable goods, especially food, often went to waste, and the petrol station couldn’t operate smoothly. The need for a solution was urgent and paramount.
The Solution:
Enter Hill Solar and Electrical, who collaborated with our distributor, MMEM Alice Springs. Together, they embarked on the journey to equip the Roadhouse with a robust solar power solution. The goal was clear: eliminate constant power outages by ensuring uninterrupted power supply, minimizing disruptions and financial losses.
We designed a robust 3-phase grid-connected system with 45kVa of inverter power, 30kW of solar, and 60kWh Pylontech batteries to cater specifically to the Roadhouse’s unique needs.
However, implementing this solution wasn’t straightforward. The town’s power is supplied by two 500kVa generators, which posed significant challenges when introducing solar. The integration could potentially cause stability issues within their system. Moreover, the Power and Water Corporation had specific requirements for solar integration, given the town’s unique power setup.
But, with challenges come opportunities. Commodore Australia rose to the occasion, working closely with the Power and Water Corporation. Through collaboration and innovation, we developed a custom solution that not only catered to the Roadhouse’s needs but also met the Corporation’s ramping requirements. This ensured that the solar system could be seamlessly integrated into their network without causing any stability issues.
Conclusion:
The Ti Tree Food Barn case is a testament to Commodore Australia’s commitment to providing tailored solutions, even in the face of unique challenges. Today, the Roadhouse enjoys a consistent power supply, ensuring smooth operations and safeguarding their income. This project underscores the importance of collaboration, innovation, and a customer-centric approach in delivering effective solutions.
